Ethiopian Children Dying Daily from starvation

EGU VILLAGE, Ethiopia (CNN) -- A year of drought and soaring food prices has threatened the lives of tens of thousands of Ethiopian children.

Tens of thousands of Ethiopian children are facing a severe risk of famine.

"We have nothing to feed our children," said Egu's village elder. "We are losing our children day by day."

Ethiopia's Health Ministry, along with UNICEF, monitors the health of thousands of children here, but the number of areas they have been able to regularly visit has been cut in half this year.

The small rains that normally allow Ethiopian farmers to plant a second crop each year did not come this year, adding to an already critical food shortage.

"It's an open crisis and there are more people than we expected, than the government expected, who need additional food," said Bjorn Ljungqvist, head of UNICEF Ethiopia.

There is a critical shortfall in the supply of therapeutic foods used to treat children with severe acute malnutrition, the UNICEF official said.

The UN's children's agency is appealing for $10 million to pay for emergency needs of more than seven million children under five as well as pregnant and lactating mothers in 325 drought-affected districts.

The World Food Programme (WFP) supplies the emergency food for UNICEF, but rising food prices mean it could not guarantee aid for all the areas in need.

"Unless you get immediate assistance the risk is, you fall into severe malnutrition and eventually death, so unless our supporters come in immediately for this we fear that is what is going to happen in the country," said Jakob Mikkelse, the WFP's nutrition and education chief.

Egu is a village UNICEF is no longer able to visit on a regular basis.

"If we were not here, those children who we had found now, with severe acute malnutrition would have died at home," UNICEF Emergency Nutrition Project Officer Samson Dessie.

UNICEF estimates six million Ethiopian children under the age of five are at risk and more than 120,000 have only about a month to live.

As the relief workers depart Egu, they leave behind a few emergency food packs and a promise to return.

The Ethiopian government has worked with UNICEF since 2004 on the Enhanced Outreach Strategy (EOS) to provide food for child survival. The effort distributes child survival packages that include vitamin A supplementation, de-worming, measles catch-up, nutritional screening and referral to supplementary or therapeutic feeding programs.

"EOS is really very important from many perspectives with regard to child survival," Dessie said. "The first is it brings high-impact, low-cost child survival packages like vitamin A, which can reduce child mortality by up to 35 per cent."

These kind of activities have been suspected for a long time, and include, 9/11 in New York, and 7/7 in London.

In a coordinated operation on May 7, Iranian intelligence agents arrested the terrorist network’s members, who were identified in Fars, Khuzestan, Gilan, West Azerbaijan, and Tehran provinces, the Intelligence Ministry announcement said. The group’s plans were devised in the U.S., according to the announcement, which added that they had planned to carry out a number of acts such as bombing scientific, educational, and religious centers, shooting people, and making public places in various cities insecure.

Iran says intercepted terrorist attack on Russian consulate 14 May 2008 Iran has arrested a terrorist group that planned to blow up the Russian consulate building in the town of Rasht near the Caspian Sea, the Iranian intelligence and security minister said on Wednesday. Iran blames US after diplomats are shot in Baghdad 18 May 2008 Iran angrily blamed the US on Friday after at least three of its diplomats were wounded in a Baghdad shooting, saying the US was encouraging attacks on Iranians in Iraq. In my opinion, being a Brit in China, I am sick of hearing about the Olympics, This is not because I don't think the Olympics are wonderful - I probaby care more than most. I am not sick because the Olympics are attracting more publiciy than ever before. No! I am sick because the Olympics are no longer about the athletes, or sport. If we search the thousands of web sites, blogs, newspapers and TV news, how much do we dicover about the athletes.

All we get is politics, religion, and problems created by the two.

I think that the world has gone mad.

Why aren't we hearing about all the effort that each individual athlete has put in to reach a level of performance which is good enough to allow him or her to represent his nation at the highest levels of the sport. That is probably more effort than any poltician or religious person has put ino anything over the last few years - most of them have been taking out, not putting in! I believe that this disgusting coverage of the The Olympic Games is an indicator of the state of society - insane

Meanwhile, geostrategic realities, and historical and current parapolitical fact, suggest that the protesters and passionate activists

Tibet: imperial pawn

Behind the powerful din created by the popular and celebrity-embraced “Save Tibet,” campaign is the fact that the CIA is behind the Tibet independence movement.

In addition to being geostrategically situated, Tibet is also rich with <http://www.gasandoil.com/goc/news/nts44532.htm> oil and gas, and minerals -- and this is just part of the larger superpower warfare between the US and China. See

The legions of pro-Tibet activists also seem largely unaware of the historical fact that the “holy land of compassion” has been a CIA pawn since the end of World War II. The infamous Tolstoi Mission sent CIA operatives into Tibet, with plans to establish it as a US military base, from which the US could control the entire Asian region. This activity flourished under the US-supported, opium-banked Nationalist Kuomintang regime of Chiang Kai-Shek.

When the Communists rose to power, the CIA trained Tibetans in guerrilla tactics to use against the regime in Peking, and thousands of Tibetans lost their lives in these battles. Who benefited? Who really gave the orders then -- and who is driving the agenda now?

There is little doubt that Anglo-American interests continue to use Tibet, exploit the image of Tibet as a holy place under siege, and bamboozle naïve (and well-heeled) outside activists with slick marketing, in order to undermine Beijing.

Denunciations of Beijing’s brutal crackdowns do not take into account the covert operations and outside infiltrations that triggered the crackdowns in the first place.

Outside forces behind Falun Gong

On the surface, and to uncritical eyes, practitioners of the practice of <http://www.faluninfo.net/> Falun Gong, a school of Chinese qi gong, are the innocent victims of horrific suppression by Beijing. In a situation parallel to the crackdowns in Tibet, it is also a fact that Falun Gong has been the recipient of years of vicious crackdowns and human rights atrocities across China.

But just as is the case with Tibet, there is more to the Falun Gong case than simple persecution. Outside political forces and corporate interests can be found pushing Falun Gong into increasingly political activities, including well-funded, well-organized, and ubiquitous worldwide protests against the Chinese Communist Party.

Philip Agee, and many others have amply documented, is a US intelligence apparatus that has been a driving force behind opposition forces (“democracy revolutions”) in many countries.

As pointed out by William Blum in his book, Rogue State, the CIA has created a host of “Trojan horses” such as the NED specifically to subvert foreign countries, under the guise of humanitarianism:

“The NED was set up in the early 1980s under President Reagan in the wake of the negative revelations about the CIA, in the second half of the 1970s . . . The idea was that the NED would do somewhat overtly what the CIA had been doing covertly for decades, and thus, hopefully, eliminate the stigma associated with CIA covert activities.

“It was a masterpiece. Of politics, of public relations and of cynicism.

“The National Endowment for Democracy was set up to 'support democratic institutions throughout the world through private, nongovernmental efforts' . . . In actuality, every penny of its funding comes from the federal government . . . NED likes to refer to itself as an NGO (non-governmental organization). The NED is a 'GO.'

“In a multitude of ways, the NED meddles in the internal affairs of foreign countries . . . In short, NED’s programs are in sync with the basic needs and objectives of the New World Order’s economic globalization, just as the programs have for years been on the same wavelength as US foreign policy.

“The NED, like the CIA before it, calls what it does supporting democracy. The governments and movements whom the NED targets call it destabilization.”

An <http://www.southasiaanalysis.org/papers2/paper198.htm> analysis conducted in 1999 (during the Clinton administration) offers a glimpse of the NED’s role behind a long list of “democracy” fronts -- including Tibet independence and Falun Gong. Just imagine what this list looks like today, in a time of war, spearheaded by the Bush-Cheney milieu.

For legitimate reasons, Beijing clearly suspects US and CIA involvement behind Falun Gong. Denunciations of human rights offenses committed against Falun Gong, however legitimate, are one-sided if they do not also take into account the funding and co-opting of the group by outside political forces.

Manipulation behind Darfur

Similar to the “Save Tibet” movement, the “Save Darfur”/“Stop Darfur Genocide” movement has become a worldwide cause celebre, embraced and trumpeted by a host of Hollywood celebrities and headline-loving political bigwigs, and aggressive activists. While this cause is continuously promoted by propaganda, and one-sided “Hotel Rwanda” type fare, the real geostrategic game being played in Africa is being largely ignored.

China and the US are just one of many nations whose political and corporate interests are battling over which controls the

It is not just China doing business there. In fact, the Western oil companies have engaged in far more aggressive activities, for many years more.

Darfur is <http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=4717> brimming with covert operations, and Anglo-American military-intelligence involvement behind tribal warfare, elections, cross-border military skirmishes, and massacres is undeniable.

In other words, there is a “great game” being played in Africa, just as there is one being played around Tibet. Through propaganda, China is being made into the single arch-villain. ...

We've already done this little experiment in my household when my younger son was in elementary school.

He grew three pes seedlings until they were approx 10 cm tall, using only tap water.

He then switched to watering one seedling exclusively with micro waved water, one exclusively with purified water, and one he continued to water with regular tap water.

He ran the experiment for 30 days.

The micro waved water contains nothing the poor little seedling could use. The poor little thing died off within a very short time.

Interestingly (but not necessarily surprisingly) the filtered water seedling grew the best.

You should also look into some of the photographs taken by Dr. Masaru Emoto for an illustration of what irradiation does to water.

In a nutrition class, they were taught that the process of microwavingfood causes a change on the atomic level in the substances being exposed. It plasticised them, the actual chemistry behind it was not what they were studying but it actually rendered them into a form that the body could not really use any more than it could use.
